During my apprenticeship, and over the course of a year at Swiss International Air Lines (Swiss), I gained extensive exposure to the airline’s marketing and customer service operations, developing practical skills across a wide range of areas.
My experience began with structured training across the Marketing Department, where I was introduced to:
The flight reservation system
Social media platform management
Responding professionally to client enquiries
Targeted newsletter creation using segmentation tools
This initial phase gave me a strong understanding of the systems and workflows essential to Swiss's client communication and digital presence.
Over several weeks, I was supervised by different professionals across the department, contributing to various core activities, including:
VIP flight reservations and coordination
Social media community management, including after-sales assistance
Newsletter planning, design, and distribution
Statistical analysis and performance reporting using Excel and PowerPoint
This immersive training developed both my adaptability and my capacity to manage diverse communication channels and data-driven tasks.
A key highlight of my time at Swiss was a full-day in-flight crew immersion on the Geneva-Ibiza-Geneva route:
I assisted cabin crew in their duties, including distributing Swiss chocolate to passengers
I had the unique opportunity to sit in the cockpit during the landing in Ibiza
I observed the return flight from the cockpit
Throughout the year, I attended several internal Swiss events in both Zurich (ZRH) and Geneva (GVA):
Participated in staff gatherings and networking sessions
Took part in a guided tour of the GVA aircraft hangar, exploring maintenance operations behind the scenes
This year at Swiss gave me a rich, real-world perspective on aviation marketing and customer care, while allowing me to grow my skills in digital communication, data analysis, and operational coordination. I left with a deep appreciation for Swiss’s commitment to excellence and the confidence to thrive in demanding, customer-focused environments.
